Dalton unable to follow up heroics

First Division Dalton were unable to follow up last week’s heroics in the Cumbria League T20 competition.

Dalton, the First Division leaders had shocked Millom in the opening South Group game but were comprehensively beaten at Haverigg last night.

After being asked to bat first they could only manage 104-5 from their 20 overs, a total that owed much to captain and opener Daniel Sharpe who batted all the way through for 49no off 56 balls.

The only real help came right at the end of the innings from Lewis Bayman (17).

Jordan Postlethwaite had the best bowling figures for Haverigg with 1-9 off his four overs.

The home side needed only 14.3 overs to reach their target as openers Drew Postlethwaite (54no off 45 balls) and Umar Waheed (27no off 42) saw them home.

The opening game in the North, between Keswick and Wigton is being played at a later date.

Keswick will, however, be in Cup action on Sunday when they host Furness.

It’s the first semi-final in the Higson Cup competition and on the same day Workington host Cleator in the last quarter final tie. Cockermouth await the winners.
