Allan Stobart staff put their best foot forward for charity

Staff from Cumbria’s Allan Stobart put their best foot forward on the hottest day of the year to raise almost £3,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

They took part in Trek13 – a 13-mile route which began in Patterdale and ended at Dalemain last Saturday for the charity, because it is close to their hearts.

Allan Stobart Lubricants and Fuels has been supplying householders, farmers, and businesses for over four decades and is a proud member of the West Cumberland Farmers (WCF) group, one of the largest independent fuel oil distributors in the UK.

The local depot is strategically placed in Raughton Head, near Dalston to enable it to deliver across north Cumbria and southern Scotland.

The team was made up from employees from across the business. Led by routing assistant Willie Johnston, he was joined by general manager Steven Hindmarsh, drivers Colin Davidson, David Lamb, and Ian Bouch and sales and marketing co-ordinator Layla Marks.

The group has been raising funds for Alzheimer’s Society, a charity close to the hearts of many, but especially Steve and Willie who both have family members who have the disease.

Willie came up with idea of completing the walk to raise funds on behalf his father. He said: “My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s over five years ago and is now in a dedicated residential care unit.

“He is comfortable and well looked after but this disease is very cruel and distressing for both patient and family. I’m hoping we can raise as much money as possible for this incredible cause.”

The group completed the challenge in four hours and 47 minutes.

Paul Ingleton, who also works as a driver at Allan Stobarts, decided to tackle the Trek26 which starts and finishes at Dalemain estate but covers the distance of a marathon.

Everyone involved agreed that even though it was hard work, it was worth it and that they’d be interested in doing it again next year!

The group has managed to raise £2,904 so far. Donations are being accepted until this Friday, June 16.
