The winners of the prestigious Free From Food Awards (FFFA) have been announced and Cumbria’s Ginger Bakers have won the top spot in the ‘Gifting’ category.

The lakeland cake makers picked up a coveted FFFA gold star award with their Gluten Free Mixed Tray Bake Box, winning against stiff competition.

This year a record 550 entries were received across the 28 award categories, including specialist product areas such as: Breakfast & Morning Goods, Breads, Savoury Snacking, Confectionary and Desserts & Puddings to name a few.

During the course of 12 weeks every single product entered was carefully scrutinised by the awards’ panel of independent judges, made up from expert chefs, product developers, manufacturing specialists, nutritionists and allergy specialists.

Ginger Bakers owner Lisa Smith said: ‘’We’ve been producing Free From products for several years now and this award shows that what we are creating in our kitchens are on the right track.

“It’s a steadily growing sector of the market and one that we are looking to develop really interesting products for, as part of our aim to ensure that everyone can enjoy a little bit of what they fancy no matter what their dietary requirements might be.

“Winning this award has been a real team effort, from the outset, from the packaging design to the actual product development, to the sales and marketing side of things.”

Free From Food Awards chief executive, Cressida Langlands, said: “We were thrilled this year, not only to receive a record number of entries, but also to see new categories, such as Keto, Meal Kits, and International Recognition, perform so well, with innovation galore.”
