A fell runner was rescued after collapsing from heat exhaustion during a Lake District marathon.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called yesterday Sunday 11 June at around 1.52pm to Torver Back Common to assist the North West Ambulance Service in carrying the runner on a stretcher to the nearest road.
The runner was competing in the Lakeland Trails Coniston Marathon in hot and sunny conditions when he fainted during the last few miles and became confused on recovering.
The event organiser’s medical cover attended and led the runner’s treatment and a land ambulance met all involved rescue teams to transfer the runner to Furness General Hospital for further treatment.
Nine members attended from the mountain rescue and the incident lasted two hours and 48 minutes.
Other marathons as part of the event also took place on the day, which many of the team also marshalled.
