The Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL programme has the field to itself in the county with National Conference fixtures limited.
Egremont Rangers are the only Cumbrian club involved as they have a Division One fixture at leaders West Bowling.
The Bradford side have only lost once in 11 games and this will be the biggest test for Egremont since their upturn in form has seen them move into a challenging position, currently fourth but six points behind the leaders.
In Cumbria though there were four games – two of them last night – and two today.
Hensingham A have had two tight games with Cockermouth over the last fortnight – winning one and losing one – and they were at home last night to Maryport.
The E Lamb and Son Amateur Cup winners were outstanding in beating Wath Brow A in that final but were brought down to earth last week, beaten by Lowca – but in a tight contest which was settled very late on.
In yesterday’s other clash Kells A entertain Wath Brow A for which the Hornets will start favourite. But the Wath Brow factor will bring the best out of a Kells side, being extra competitive on the night.
Kells A were almost level with Distington last week at half-time but fell away in the second half.
Glasson Rangers host Egremont A this afternoon and it’s only last Friday night that they met at Gillfoot and it finished all square 24-24. Another close contest is expected.
Champions Distington will start favourites to continue their run at Lowca tomorrow but the home side have been producing some encouraging performances this season and it will depend on how long they can stay in touch.
Tomorrow: Glasson Rangers v Egremont A (ko 2.30pm, ref Mike Burgess); Lowca v Distington (ko 2.30pm, ref Rob Scott).
