The British Under-19s Final at Birmingham last night was abandoned after just four heats because of rain.

Visibility was said to be poor for those riders in behind and after discussions in the pits referee Simon Humphrey-Kennett decided to call it off.

All 16 riders had made one appearance on the track and three Workington Comets were in the same heat.

The youngest of them all, Luke Harrison, made the gate and got away to win comfortably and with Jody Scott pulling-up while second with mechanical problems the Comets’ pair of Sam McGurk and Elliot Kelly took second and third respectively.

Ace Pijper had been out in the second heat and came off in a bunched start. He only just made the two minutes with his second bike but that packed-up on the second lap and he picked up no points.

Nathan Ablett (Scunthorpe/Kent), Dan Thompson (Ipswich/Birmingham/Leicester Cubs), Ashton Boughen (Leicester Cubs) and Harrison were the four heat winners.

No new date has been announced for a rerun of the meeting.
