
Despite much speculation he was heading north of the border, Carlisle United defender Morgan Feeney has opted to stay in the EFL after assigning for Shrewsbury.
The 24-year-old Blues skipper had turned down the chance of a new deal at Brunton Park to consider his options and has settled on the Shrews.
United manager Paul Simpson had warned fans at Tuesday’s forum that Feeney had rejected his offer, but clubs like Hearts or Hibs over the border were expected to be
Shrewsbury boss Matt Taylor told the Shrewsbury website: “He is a player our fans will really take to because of his effort, desire and application.
“Technically he is very gifted and we feel, as a football club, we can add value to his game whilst understanding he already has a very good amount of Football League experience – with Morgan captain of a team that was promoted from League Two last season.”
Feeney joined Carlisle in January 2021 and last season played in 35 games for the Cumbrians.
After learning his trade in the Everton youth system he joined Sunderland, where he made just one appearance in the EFL Trophy before linking up with Carlisle.
He moved on to Carlisle in January 2021 and made 35 appearances last season, scoring three goals.
