Workington Town’s League One game at Oldham was postponed yesterday – because the Cumbrians couldn’t get there.
A bad crash on the motorway, in which a tanker overturned, meant the Workington coach was stuck in the jam and the delay was too long to consider finishing the journey.
The coach only moved three miles in three hours and it was a frustrating end to the day for the players, coaches and officials.
It continues Town’s stop-start season. Just when they thought they were getting back into regular games a fortnight ago the fixture at North Wales Crusaders was postponed because their opponents hadn’t a ground to play on.
They got in a home game last week, and a big win over Midlands Hurricanes, but now they have been unable to follow-up at Oldham.
Town are due back at Derwent Park on Sunday when they entertain top five rivals Hunslet.
