Kendal Calling organisers have officially started work on building this year’s site.
The Cumbrian festival shared a behind the scenes video showing work taking place to get the arena and campsites ready for revellers attending the event in two weeks time.
Perimeter fencing is slowly being put up and electrical and water supplies are being installed on site.
Work to build the festival’s recognisable features such as stages and marquees will take place closer to the start of the event.
Andy Smith, Co-Founder of Kendal Calling said, “With just two weeks to go, preparations are in full swing! We have a core crew of approximately 30 people living on site at the moment, absolute troopers who will still be in the Deer Park at least a month from now.
“During the festival week this small team will balloon up to just over 3000 staff on site working to produce the best festival we possibly can. It’s brilliant being back doing what we love and this really is our favourite time of the year!”
During the festival, Kendal Calling becomes the third largest town in the county – beaten only by Carlisle and Barrow and the event has sold out for 15 consecutive years.
It’s impact also goes beyond the festival grounds, as it has raised over £200,000 for charities such as Guide Dogs for the Blind, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and the North West Air Ambulance.
Local initiative have also been supported too and the festival has backed events like Penrith Show, contributed to the Askham swimming pool, and even donated free musical instruments to schools across Cumbria in 2017.
The festival also holds the record for the world’s largest mint cake and the largest gathering of people dressed as Superman.
This year’s event takes place on July 27 to July 30 with headliners including Kasabian, Blossoms, Royal Blood and Rick Astley.
