Two young girls from the Penrith club have been selected for the England Rugby under-18s Girls training camp ahead of the 2024 6 Nations campaign.

Number eight Penny Robinson and winger/centre Caitlin Padgett attend QEGS and are part of a strong Under-16 squad at the club who move up to Under-18s next season.

James Cooper, England U18 Women’s head coach, got in touch to give them the news that the season, selection process and build-up to the Under-18s 6 Nations, begins again in August.

Penny and Caitlin have been identified through the NE & Cumbria Centre of Excellence system as having potential to challenge for selection into the Under-18s squad, with the possibility of further selection in the future.

The squad also includes another Cumbrian in Izzy Green, of Keswick.

The NE Centre of Excellence Under-18s squad of 50-plus are in training at present – there were nine of Penrith’s Under-16s girls selected – with a match squad soon to be announced for their first match in August.

This follows on from the recent International Girls recognition for the Penrith club as the Panthers’ Polly Bowman attended the England Under-19s summer training camp.

Polly impressed at Under-18s level last season, earning her the opportunity to attend the camp and impress the coaching staff and push for a place in the England Under-20s squad.
