Furness College head of faculty Zoe Guest presents engineering degree student Ben Edmondson with the IET Prize

An engineering student from Furness College has been recognised for his talent and hard work by the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Ben Edmondson is studying a degree in mechanical engineering with Lancaster University at Furness College’s Channelside campus in Barrow.

He received his award from head of faculty for technical and build engineering and business services Zoe Guest at the graduation ceremony this month.

The IET Prize is awarded annually to outstanding students who are completing a course of study which has been accredited by the institution.

Prize winners are nominated by their university based on having shown distinction in their course leading to the award of a first degree and they also win two years free student membership of the institution.

Professor Bob Cryan CBE, the institution’s resident said: “Our IET prizes are a terrific means for talented engineering students to be recognised for their outstanding ability in the early stages of their engineering journey.

“Membership provides early-career professionals with the valuable opportunity to connect with a global community, grow their networks and develop their technical knowledge.

“We are passionate about promoting engineering excellence and our awards and prizes showcase some of the finest engineering talent. All the winners should be very proud of their achievements, and I wish them all the best for a long, fulfilling and successful engineering career.”
