Penrith are through to the preliminary round of the FA Cup after a fine 2-1 victory over Boro Rangers.
The extra preliminary round tie was played at Carlisle City’s Gillford Park while the Penrith pitch is re-fitted and their tie with Consett will also not be played at Frenchfields.
Manager Darren Edmondson said: “With the first ten matches all away that’s why I was so pleased we got this win as the cash from the FA Cup will be a bonus with no home gates to help.
“I think it was thoroughly deserved as well because, particularly in the second-half we were dominant and the better side.
“They were Division Two champions last season so obviously came with a bit of momentum. They were direct and tried to make it a battle but I thought we stood up to them very well, particularly at the back.
“Our passing and movement was very good and the front two were always a handful for them.
“They actually took the lead and it was a great finish from their lad who lobbed Aaran Taylor from 25 yards. I think he scored a lot of goals for them in their title-winning season.
“But we came back well at them and in many ways there was only one team in it during the second-half when their keeper made a couple of very good saves.”
Stuart Rose had given Boro the lead on 12 minutes but Penrith won it with second half goals from Luke Hunter (62) and Daniel Smales (79).
“We go to Whickham on Tuesday in the League and we have a couple of lads carrying knocks from Saturday,” said Edmondson.
