
Workington Town were out-gunned in the second half by League One leaders Dewsbury Rams as they went down 38-8.
The Cumbrians had been strongly in contention at half time as they were all square at 8-8.
But the Rams ran away with it in the second-half, scoring 30 unanswered points to clinch the League One championship.
The game had opened in explosive fashion when Town skipper was shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle in the second minute.
It cost an immediate two points as Paul Sykes kicked the resultant penalty from in front of the posts.
Scholey had not returned when Town were in the lead. Cieran Walker sliced through the Dewsbury defence to score a try which he converted on 11 minutes.
The lead last eight minutes before the Rams had gone in front. Ronan Dixon showed his strength to crash over from close range and Sykes converted.
But Town were competing well and on 23 minutes Walker took the opportunity to pull his side level after the Rams were penalised for a late hit.
It had been a good effort by the visitors but the second half got away from them.
The tide started to turn on 52 minutes when Sykes kicked a penalty for a late shot.
Six minutes later Sykes was on hand to take the pass and score after Brad Graham had weaved through the Town defence to score. Sykes converted.
Three minutes later it was looking ominous when Andy Gabriel somehow leapt high enough to superbly take a cross-field kick and then step inside for the touchdown which Sykes converted.
The Rams were rampant and after Sam Day and Owen Restall linked to open up the Town defence it was Gabriel again who went over in the corner for an unconverted try.
It had become damage limitation and Town dug in without conceding for ten minutes but Restall bulldozed his way through the Town defence to score on 72 minutes and Sykes converted.
Two minutes from time a superb break from Bailey O’Connor paved the way for Gabriel to complete his hat-trick. Man of the match Sykes converted.
