Cleator Moor Celtic scored a 90th minute winner last night to maintain their 100 per cent start to life in the West Lancashire League.
Dan Hill netted his second of the night to earn the 10 men of Celtic a 2-1 win at Slyne with Hest, but goalkeeper Scott Paden-Gale was also hailed for his work between the posts.
Manager Brian Dawson admitted: “That was a very tough game for us and one we probably got away with if I’m honest.
“Going away on a Tuesday night is always a tough one for us. We had six players from Saturday’s squad unavailable due to work commitments and a couple out through injury so the result highlights the strength in depth we have this season.
“We started well going a goal up after 25 minutes through Dan Hill and looked a real threat clipping the ball over their high line, but we then stopped doing it.
“It was still 1-0 when we missed a great chance from a one-on-one with their keeper which if taken might have killed the game off.
“But credit to Slyne they got level. Started playing well and would have been in front at half-time but for our keeper Scott Paden-Gale making a string of fine saves.
“In the second-half we changed the formation and looked much more comfortable. We kept the ball better but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.
“We went down to ten men with a very strange decision with 20 minutes to go but managed to show great resilience to nick a winner in the last minute through the impressive Dan Hill, which was his second goal of the night.”
On Saturday Celtic travel to CMB, who finished as runners-up last season but haven’t had a league game so far.
Dawson expects a tough contest but will be taking his squad high on confidence after two opening victories in their new surroundings.
