A free outdoor film screening, exclusive tours of an historic landmark, a crazy comedy night, tons of fabulous food and drink, arty workshops, live music, family fun, expert demos and more… Maryport Taste of the Sea is back this weekend.

The festival, in partnership with Maryport Town Council, is part of the Taste Cumbria events organised by Cumberland Council. It takes place on Saturday August 12 and Sunday August 13.

There is a producers’ market at the top of Senhouse Street, with a hot food court, festival marquee drinks tent run by Maryport Round Table, live music and a picnic field down on the harbourside.

That area will also be used to promote fish and seafood, and there will also be chefs’ demonstrations on the Vici stage too, as well as a fairground and children’s activities.

The weekend kicks off with a lively comedy night on Friday August 11. Some tickets are still available. Visit www.visitallerdale.co.uk/things-to-do/taste-cumbria-maryport/ to book.

New for this year is an outdoor film screening of Finding Dory which on the big screen on the main stage at the harbourside Green next to Shiver Me Timbers. It will take place at 5pm on Saturday.

Visitors can also sign up for exclusive tours of Christ Church, which is in the process of being transformed to become the new home of Maryport Maritime Museum. Only 30 tour places are available.

The town’s Cultural Consortium, funded by Historic England’s High Street Heritage Action Zone fund via Cumberland Council will be hosting arty taster sessions under the Made in Maryport banner.

Find the workshops, plus Roman food and drink demonstrations, music and a talk on the work of Maryport artist William Mitchell, and heritage walks around the harbour and marina, in their marquee on the green.

All the activities will be delivered by the Consortium’s partners – Senhouse Museum, Maryport Maritime Museum, the new Shipping Brow Gallery and The Settlement.

Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said: “The Maryport Taste of the Sea festival, in partnership with Maryport Town Council, is going to be another brilliant showcase for this lovely town.

“Thank you again to Maryport Town Council for increasing its sponsorship this year. Their £20,000 contribution helps to ensure the festival is one of the area’s best events again this summer.”

In addition to Maryport Town Council, Cumberland Council would also like to thank Maryport Business Group, Maryport Round Table, Vici for the use of their demonstration trailer, and Maryport Harbour Authority for the use of their land.
