The huge explosion of weeds in Carlisle has prompted Cumberland Council to take action.
The authority said that due to talks with its weedkiller supplier over costs, there was a delayed start in treating the problem areas and good weather had contributed extensive growth.
Cumberland Council said the Carlisle area had now undergone a comprehensive spraying, and the highways teams, working with its street scene teams, are prioritising the following areas:
- Main approaches into the city
- Around the Castle and the city centre streets
- Denton Holme
- Harraby
- Stanwix
- Botcherby
- Kingstown
- Morton
- Bell Vue
- Raffles
- Currock
- Upperby
- Longsowerby
The council said the weed spray used is eco-friendly and safe for the environment, animals and human health.
A spokesman added: “However, its effect on weeds might be lower compared to products used in private gardens. This results in reduced potency, longer timeframes for desired outcomes, and an elevated risk of dilution during unfavourable weather conditions.”
Once the additional weed removal work is completed, it will be followed by a final spray across the city.
