The Cumbria Opera Festival 2023 – only the second event of its kind – takes place soon in venues across Cumbria.
From Poulenc’s captivating La Voix Humaine to Mozart’s eternal Don Giovanni, this festival will bring world-class opera into Cumbria.
The festival opens in Penrith with two nights of operas from Schumann and Poulenc on August 26 and 27, before Opera Highlights visits Dalton-in-Furness on August 27, Appleby on August 28th and Carlisle on August 29.
Joan Rodgers CBE, one of the greatest sopranos of her generation, will be the subject of an ‘In Conversation’ event in St Bees, just down the road from her birthplace in Cleator Moor.

The festival’s flagship production of Don Giovanni – featuring an all-star cast from Glyndebourne, Garsington, and the Royal Opera House – comes to Grange-over-Sands on August 30, August 31 and September 2.
