The funeral service for the former Workington, England and British Lions forward Peter Dixon will be on Friday, September 1.

It is to be held at 2pm in St Michael’s and All Angels’ Church, Isel and afterwards friends have been invited to the Lakes Distillery at Setmurthy.

Earlier this week, Cumbria Crack received a note from a former colleague and team-mate in Professor David A Kirby, holder of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion.

He wrote: “I was sorry to read that Peter had died. Could you please convey my deepest sympathy to his daughter and loved ones.

“Peter and I studied and played rugby together at Durham University in the 1960s before he went on to postgraduate study at Oxford. We then both returned to Durham and were on the staff of the university in the 1990s.

“As a student he was  clearly a highly intelligent individual which was evident in the way he played his rugby. However. his most endearing qualities were probably his humility and his care for others. May he rest in peace.”

Tributes poured in after his death earlier this month.
