It’s a big day for Barrow footballer Georgia Stanway.
The athlete is part of the England Lionesses and the side face Spain in the Women’s World Cup today.
Westmorland and Furness Council have wished her all the best ahead of the final.
Bayern Munich and England star Georgia was born and bred in Barrow and has played a crucial role in England’s journey to the final, playing six times and scoring one goal along the way.
Jonathan Brook, council leader, said: “Georgia’s achievements already at this world cup have been incredible and she has done her hometown of Barrow proud – whatever the result.
“The Lionesses have been an inspiration to us all and particularly for our young people, especially young girls, and I’m sure their success will have a lasting impact on participation in football and sport generally.
“Everyone at Westmorland and Furness Council wishes Georgia and the rest of Lionesses all the best this weekend. Let’s go! You can do it!”
