A woman has been jailed to 28 months for blackmailing a man for nearly £10,000.
Mirella Kovacs, 31, threatened to tell a man’s wife about them meeting in a Carlisle hotel unless he paid her cash.
Between February 2 and June 9, Kovacs demanded money from the victim via texts and calls.
Kovac, of Farmeloan Road, Glasgow, also visited his and his wife’s workplace.
She was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court.
After the sentencing, Detective Constable Gabrielle Nicholson said: “Kovac blackmailed the victim who gave her the money in the hope the demands would stop.
“However, Kovac continued to take advantage of the victim resulting in £9,180-worth of payments being made before the man reported Kovac to the police.
“Blackmail can have a detrimental impact on a person, and we would encourage anyone experiencing this type of crime to report it to the police.
“I also hope that today’s sentence will act as a warning to others that If you do carry out such an offence you will be brought before the courts.”
