Whitehaven Rugby League have announced that half-back Jamie Doran has penned a new one-year deal for the 2024 season.

Doran, 28, has made 22 appearances so far in 2023, all in the starting 13, since joining his home-town club ahead of this season and will continue to wear Chocolate, Blue and Gold once again next year.

Head coach Jonty Gorley said: “Jamie was one of a few targets I needed signed up for next year as soon as possible. A local lad, I’m sure that when it’s released he’s staying staying it will help a few others stay too I think.

“I really do feel that we still haven’t consistently seen Jamie at his best, He’s shown glimpses and I think that’s the best he’s been all year against Barrow on Monday. He was a constant threat running the ball and that’s when Jammer is at his best.

“It’s now up to me, and Jamie, to get the best out of him next year. If we do that, I really do feel we’ll have one of the best halves in the competition.”

Doran created one of the tries of the season at the LEL Arena against Barrow which one stalwart supporter said “was worth the admission money on its own.”
