Lowca Pirates undone by own goal

Lowca Pirates, champions of the last Egremont Sunday League, made their debut in the new West Cumberland Sunday League last night – but lost.

They went down 1-0 to Parkside who have proved to be the early pacemakers in the Premier Division with three wins and a draw from their first four games.

In a tight game it was unfortunate for the Pirates that they were undone by an own goal from Owen Woods.

Northside have dominated the Workington League for a few years now and they were taken all the way by Dearham to make it three wins in three games.

Dearham set off like a train and were 2-0 up inside 20 minutes with both goals from Brett McMillan, one of which was a really good finish.

Northside got more into it in the closing stages but didn’t pull one back. However they started quickly in the second-half and Max Litt scored within minutes.

The equaliser followed from Brad Tatton with a rocket into the top corner, an early contender for Northside’s goal of the season.

There was a tense closing quarter with Northside doing a lot of pressing and they gained their reward five minutes from time when Litt’s second goal clinched the points.

Deer Orchard have struggled to get going this season and currently sit bottom of the Premier Division after a fourth straight defeat. They went down 4-1 at home to Blue Bell.

Aiden Smith (2), Taylor Bromley and Adam Chambers scored the goals for Blue Bell with Max Pickering replying for Orchard.

In the other top flight game it was an all-Copeland affair with FC Cosmos winning 3-0 at Moresby Rangers. Liam O’Pray (2) and Aidan Graham were the scorers.

The good news for the Premier Division is that Thornhill, who haven’t played a game yet, have got sorted and will be ready to start their fixtures on Thursday – there are no games on Sunday because of the Bank Holiday week-end.

Three teams remain unbeaten in Division One but Salterbeck and Sun Inn are both 100% so far while Senhouse Street have drawn one of three games.

All three won their games last night, highlighted by Sun Inn’s 8-0 win over the Swan. Richard O’Keefe (2), Louis Elliott (2), Mally Graham, Cameron Jackson, Dan Pearson and Luke Day were the goal-scorers.

Sun Inn have won three out of three but Salterbeck are four from four after they beat the King’s Arms 3-0 with goals from Leon Wharrier, Ewan Robinson and Logan Potter.

Senhouse kept in the hunt with a 3-1 win over Royal Oak as Chris Taylor (2) and Gary O’Driscoll supplied the finishes.

Flimby Social suffered a set-back when they were held 3-3 by Burcher’s in a tightly-fought all-Allerdale clash.

Lee Birks (2) and Scott Underwood were on target for Flimby while Lewis Mattinson, Joe Porter and David Mulgrew earned the point for the Butcher’s.

In the other First Division game the Sun won 2-1 at Seaton after both teams had gone into the contest without a point. Scott Charlton and Liam Seager scored the crucial goals for The Sun.
