Work is set to continue to help stop flooding in a West Cumbrian village.
Contractors from Carlisle’s Cubby Construction have been at Flimby this year to carry out several projects to help stop flooding in the village and the nearby Maryport.
The next phase will begin this month on the Cat Gill culvert and in October, work will restart on the A596 culvert for around two weeks.
Cumberland Council said traffic management will be in place.
The next phases of this project will be:
- Installation of Cat Gill diversion culvert
- Completion of Bragg Beck Culvert (A596)
- Construction of Penny Gill flood storage bund
The scheme has already seen the following work completed:
- Successful installation of the Penny Gill diversion culvert.
- Diversion of peak flows from Penny Gill to Furnace Gill.
- Remediation works to an existing flood gate adjacent to the A596.
- Elevation of surface water drainage systems in Coniston Avenue’s residential areas.
- Implementation of additional dams, strategically positioned to slow water flow in the eastern woodland of Flimby.
- Substantial replacement of a culvert below the A596 at Bragg Beck
