58 extra static caravans can be added to a West Cumbrian village’s caravan park.
Westville Caravan Park in Allonby, near Maryport, asked Cumberland Council for change of use of 1.1 acres of land to the rear of its existing site and the authority approved the bid on Monday.
The caravan park is in the centre of the village.
Each of the new static caravans will have parking for two vehicles.
A report said: “The proposal is to use static caravans which are of a similar appearance to the caravans on the existing site, the design of the units are therefore considered to be acceptable and can be assimilated with the rest of the site.
“It is considered that the installation of units within the proposed extension area is acceptable in terms of its impacts on its rural setting given its location adjacent to the existing holiday development.
“An existing caravan park to the north extends into the open countryside to the same extent as that proposed.
“Taking into consideration the scale of the development, proximity to the built development of Allonby, the protrusion of neighbouring caravan sites into the rural character of the area, it is considered the development is of appropriate for its location.”
