Carlisle United loan out teenage midfielder Kai Nugent

Carlisle United have loaned teenage midfielder Kai Nugent to Annan Athletic in Scottish Division One.

Nugent, who has just recovered from a foot injury which put a dampener on his pre-season, played for the first half with Carlisle reserves in their game at Wigan in mid week.

Last season Nugent had a lengthy loan spell with Workington where he helped them gain promotion from NPL West Division.

He earned his first senior deal on the successful conclusion of his two year scholarship last season.

Manager Paul Simpson said: “It’s good news for Kai. He had a bit of a setback with his injury, so we wanted to make sure he got fit before he did anything else.

“He needs to go out and play games and at this moment in time I didn’t see him getting as many games as he needs if he stayed here.

“I think he’s going to a good environment up there in Scotland. It will be good for him to go and hopefully get regular games, and we can keep assessing him at the same time before we review it in January.

“It’s a good level, they’re in League One and they’ve just recorded their first win in that division, so it will be a big test for him.

“I thought Max [Kilsby] really grew up during his loan spell with them last year and he’s doing well again this season.

“It’s a good place for them to go and learn their trade and learn about men’s football.”
