Distington can take a step near the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL title this weekend when they entertain Glasson Rangers.
If the reigning champions win their last three games – Ellenborough A home and away are the others – they will hold onto their crown.
But the battle for the final top four berths are hotting up. Kells A should finish third but it’s a straight fight between Lowca and Maryport for the other play off place.
That might depend on the match next week when the pair meet for a crunch fixture, as Cockermouth Titans have sadly fallen out of contention.
Lowca have one of the smallest squads in the League but have been extremely competitive while the Maryport club has been rejuvenated this season and have already won the E Lamb and Son Amateur Cup.
They had been in contention for a play-off place but have struggled recently to raise a side and hadn’t enough players this week-end as rugby union have bitten into the squad.
The Titans are actually through to the Firpress Printers Cumberland Cup final, the prestige game which brings the season to a close on October 21, and have promised League officials that they will have a team for the day against Distington.
There’s one game scheduled for tonight which is Hensingham A v Ellenborough A.
The table leaders are: Distington played 15, pts 28; Wath Brow A 16, 28; Kells A 17, 21; Lowca 16, 18; Maryport 16, 15; Cockermouth 16, 14.
