The latest list of Wilko stores to shut has been released – and Whitehaven and Cockermouth face the axe next week.
Its Barrow store was named among 52 stores stopped trading last Thursday and its Workington branch closed its doors for the last time on Sunday.
Cockermouth’s branch will shut on September 25 and Whitehaven will close on September 27.
Only its Carlisle outlet remains open at this time, but all of its stores are due to close by early October.
Poundland agreed to take on the leases of 71 Wilko branches, but none were in Cumbria.
A rescue deal for up to 300 Wilko stores across the UK collapsed, it was reported last week.
Doug Putman, who owns HMV, planned to take over the budget high street chain, but rising costs complicated the deal.
B&M has bought 51 stores for £13m, but they will not be revealed until November.
