A Carlisle man has been banned from having any contact with his ex-partner after he harassed her several different times.
Carlisle Magistrates’ Court heard Jason Nixon’s conduct, during mid- to late April, was committed following the breakdown his 27-year relationship with the woman.
A prosecutor told the court of incidents on at least four dates. Nixon had been sat in his van close to the woman’s place of work, shouted her name and approached her in his vehicle as she stood at a bus stop. She repeated asked him to leave her alone after he tried to make verbal contact.
On a separate occasion, the woman answered a phone call from an unknown number and recognised Nixon’s voice.
In a statement outlining the impact of Nixon’s harassment, the woman had spoken of being distressed. “I am scared of what Nixon could do,” she said. “Every time I see Nixon it makes my stomach churn. It makes me feel sick due to feeling fear.”
When interviewed by police, Nixon admitted seeing the woman during what he said were chance encounters. In court he pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment without violence.
Defence solicitor Kate Hunter said of Nixon’s conduct: “Mr Nixon wanted some closure from the relationship ending. That was the motive behind the offending. It was nothing more malicious than that.”
Magistrates imposed a £120 fine for the harassment.
Plumber Nixon, of Coney Street, Carlisle, was also made subject to a 12-month restraining order.
He must not contact the woman in any way and must not enter a specified Currock residential road except for pre-arranged work purposes.
