Two Cumbrian restaurants have been named among the best in the world for their use of vegetables.

L’Enclume in Cartmel and The Forest Side in Grasmere were named in a list of 100 restaurants which put vegetables and fruit at the centre of their menus.

In a top 10 list for the UK, L’Enclume came second and the Forest Side fourth.

Organised by We’re Smart, the awards are part of its We’re Smart Green Guide.

The online gourmet guide reviews 1,200 restaurants in 50 countries and ranks them from one to five radishes, based on the use of fruit and vegetables in their dishes.

The Forest Side was also nominated for the We’re Smart Discovery Awards, but lost out to The Dining Room@Gravetye in Sussex, which was also named the UK’s number one.

L’Enclume sources its vegetables from Simon Rogan’s Our Farm and The Forest Side has its own kitchen garden.

We’re Smart was created in 1989 by Frank Fol.
