Current L&L Property Contractors Snooker League Division One champions Workington Golf Club A produced their most convincing performance of the season so far.
They produced a 5-0 whitewash of Division Two’s Rack Shack.
A solid Bryan Walker display in the first frame of the match saw the Golf Club A side go 1-0 up but with a break of 41 in the next Phil Sorfleet eclipsed his team mate for 2-0.
Ryan Ismay was tested in the third but ultimately came out on top and as Lewis Tilley took the fourth the golfers lead now reached 4-0.
The last frame of the match needed careful powers of concentration if the clean sweep was to be delivered and with Mark Cowen more than up to the task the Whitehaven side went down 5-0.
Division One’s Workington Conservative Club powered to a confident 4-1 home victory over Division Two’s Maryport Social to make it a two out of two start to the season.
A Richard McCarthy win in the first set the Cons side up nicely but as Maryport’s Gary Miller took the next the match score was levelled at 1-1.
Alan Moore then upped the ante in the next with a frame winning break of 41 and as Ryan Barker took frame four an unassailable Cons 3-1 lead was gained.
In the final frame of the match Dave Holland was quick to get in on the break building act and with a contribution of 34 he ended the match in style for a 4-1 Cons victory.
Workington’s Station Road Club avenged last week’s TKO handicap loss against Division Two’s Workington Golf Club B with a 4-1 home win.
John Teasdale opened up with a win on the colours in the first and as team mate Steve Lowery took the next on the black Station Road Club led 2-0.
A fairly straightforward Tom Thompson victory in frame four made it 3-0 but it was the in-form Ryan Pearson who ensured whitewash fears were banished with a Golf Club B win in frame four.
The last frame of the match proved to be a close affair but it was Darren Lawson who finished the stronger as the Station Road Club cueist galvanised a very rewarding match victory.
Workington’s United Club B ran out 3-2 home winners against fellow Division Two side Workington’s Veterans Club B in hugely competitive fixture.
Another victory for Vets B’s Luke Richardson definitely made the United B side think, however with wins from Adam Sowden, Wayne Sinclair and Stephen Jackson the home side stamped their authority on the match to lead 3-1.
The last frame was still offering a point and with Dan Hallam up for collecting it he ensured the Vets Club B side went home relatively happy to end the match just one adrift.
Finally, Division Two’s Vets Club A made the most of their home advantage to beat Division One’s Flimby Social in a match of two distinct halves.
A tricky clearance of the colours enabled Vets A captain Kevin Basnett to take the first and as Mark Tunstall took the next followed by another Vets B win in the third the lower leagued side were 3-0 up.
Flimby weren’t lying down, however, as a brilliant frame winning break of 58 by Kevin Kirkham in the fourth followed by a Sal Cakmak victory on the pink in the last allowed the away side to limit the damage
