Barrow came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 last night in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
Mateusz Musialowski had given the Reds’ youngsters the lead with a brilliant first-half strike, but despite a resilient and committed defensive display they couldn’t hold out against eager Barrow in the second-half.
Sean Etaluku levelled on 65 minutes, before Mazeed Ogungbo headed home 15 minutes from time to give a much-changed Barrow side a deserved win in the end.
A crowd of 1,463 at the SO Legal Stadium saw the hosts have the first real effort at goal but Ged Garner fired wide from 25 yards.
Liverpool, though, could have taken the lead when player-coach Jay Spearing put Melkamu Frauendorf in behind the Barrow defence, but the winger couldn’t finish.
Kaide Gordon had a good strike saved by Josh Lillis, but the Barrow goalkeeper was beaten on 28 minutes.
Musialowski played a one-two with Frauendorf before hammering a stunning 25-yard strike into the top corner.
Robbie Gotts was close to an equaliser but was denied by keeper Marcelo Pitaluga while Lewis Koumas went close to a second goal for Liverpool.
Barrow had a great chance to level three minutes into the second half, but Jamie Proctor headed straight at Pitaluga from close range.
Brazilian keeper Pitaluga reacted superbly to deny Barrow substitute George Ray low to his left but Barrow did level on 65 minutes.
A cross from Etaluku somehow found its way inside Pitaluga’s near post.
Pitaluga denied Ben Whitfield with his feet, but the Liverpool goalkeeper was helpless 15 minutes from time as an in-swinging corner from the right was met by Ogungbo, and he scored with a well-placed downward header.
