Holders Workington Reds are through to the quarter finals of the Fred Conway County Cup.
Manager Danny Grainger relied on his Development side to make progress and they didn’t let him down, beating Dearham United 5-0 at Borough Park.
Development boss Craig Johnston said: “I thought we were in control of the game from the start and deserved the win.
“We scored some good goals and it was encouraging to have so many 16-year-olds on the field by the end.”
A small, but enthusiastic crowd of 257 saw Reds take the lead after 16 minutes with a goal from Cain Pears.
Five minutes later Tyler Harrel doubled the home lead and a minute later Pears grabbed his second.
Eight minutes into the second half Pears completed his hat-trick to make it 4-0 and the scoring was rounded-off after 74 minutes by Sam Christian.
Reds join Penrith in the quarter finals while there are two other ties scheduled for tonight.
Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson is also relying on his younger players for the trip to Aspatria, not wanting to risk senior members of his squad at this particular time.
Windscale, from the Wearside League, entertain Mirehouse of the County League in tonight’s other tie.
The other four second round ties will be played on Saturday – Kirkoswald v Unisun Athletic; Whitehaven Miners v Whitehaven AFC; Maryport Athletic v Wigton Harriers and Alston Moor v Eden Valley.
