Vathsal Govind (Ben Challis)

Vathsal Govind, an outstanding professional with Egremont last season, is joining Fleetwood for the 2024 season.

Govind, an Indian all-rounder, enjoyed a fine debut season in the Cumbria Cricket League’s Premier Division playing a major role in his side’s ability to retain their status in the top flight.

The 23-year-old was one of the leading professionals with the bat, scoring 467 runs at an average of 51.89.

Fleetwood finished sixth in the Northern League top flight last season when they had a South African pro Tiaan Ban Vuuren who took 44 wickets (avge 15.1) and scored 331 runs (avge 25.46).

Govind, an India Under-19s international, also bowled off-spin for Egremont, and will be expected to turn his arm with his new club.

One Egremont member said: “He was an excellent professional for us and we wish him all the best at Fleetwood. To be honest we expected him to move on and knew clubs were interested.”
