In non-league football for Cumbrian clubs, both Carlisle City and Penrith face tough away trips at Northern League level.

Carlisle City travel to Bishop Auckland who are second in the table only points behind Shildon with a game in hand.

Jim Nichols’ City side are riding high in confidence after a fine FA Vase win over Cheadle Town last week. They are eighth in the table and have lost only three games so far.

Manager Jim Nichols said: “We’ve only lost once at home and before the season we would have taken this position at this stage.”

Penrith had a welcome 7-1 win over struggling Sunderland RCA last week and know it will be much, much tougher at seventh-in-the-table North Shields.

“Sunderland RCA only have a point but we should be able to take confidence in the way we played and saw them off. Hopefully we will have more of our injured players back in the squad as well,” said manager Darren Edmondson.

Kendal Town, third in the NW Counties Premier Division take a break from League action tomorrow with a trip to Burscough in the Macron Cup.

The Mintcakes reached the semi-final last season and will be hopeful of making progress against a Burscough side who are currently third bottom.

Kendal were 3-2 winners at Litherland last week when centre-half Patrick Allington, who has just joined them on loan from Lancaster City, was in superb form.,

In NW Counties Division One North Holker Old Boys are among a clutch of clubs fighting to make the play-offs.

But tomorrow the Old Boys travel to Ashville in       for the second round of the FA Vase, a tie which was called-off last week because of a waterlogged pitch.

Ashville in NW Counties South, based in Wallasey and lie 13th of the 18 clubs. The winners tomorrow will be at home to South Liverpool in the third round.

In the West Lancashire League Premier Division both west Cumbrian clubs have home games.

Cleator Moor Celtic, impressive in last week’s 2-0 win over Rossendale, entertain Hurst Green who are 13th of the 17 clubs.

There’s a tough task for Whitehaven as they entertain second-in-the table CMB who have only dropped three points from their 13 games and although a point behind Thornton Cleveley’s have three games in hand.

Whitehaven, though, will be desperate to make a good impression and produce a shock as they were surprisingly beaten by Cumberland County League neighbours Whitehaven Miners Social in the Fred Conway County Cup last week.
