
The biggest winner this weekend in the Cumberland County League was the weather with over half of the scheduled fixtures postponed. Nevertheless there were still three entertaining games.
Bransty Rangers and Whitehaven Miners Social Development met in the Conway Cup Quarter Final. Despite Miners Development team been 1-0 up at half time thanks to a Dave Talbot goal, Bransty came back to win the tie 3-2 with on fire Liam O’Pray bagging himself two goals.
Alan Sim also netted for Rangers with the Miners other goal coming from Ryan O’Neil.
In the Premier Division it was the battle of the Athletics when Maryport Athletic welcomed Unisun Athletic and it was the hosts who took the lead through a Tom Southwell first half goal.
The west Cumbrian club was in front until the 62nd minute when Dave Nelson hit the back of the net to bring this meeting level. It ended 1-1 with both teams sharing the points.
In the third and final fixture of the day, Dearham United beat Silloth 6-1 in the First Division. Lewis Manchester (2), Cieran Little (2), Danny Dryden and Kyah Frazer all banging in goals for Dearham. Jackson Slack got a consolation for Silloth.
The following fixtures were postponed: Premier Division: Whitehaven Miners Social v Cleator Moor Celtic Res; Wigton Harriers v Aspatria.
Division One: Mirehouse v Keswick; Windscale Res v Cockermouth.
