Kendal Town, beaten semi-finalists in the Macron Cup last season, are making progress in this year’s competition.
They were comfortable 5-0 winners at Burscough this afternoon when keeper Chris Cheetham did not have a save to make until the 78th minute.
The Mintcakes couldn’t have asked for a better start, going ahead after only three minutes after James Bailey took the ball off the keeper to find Steve Yawson and he made no mistake.
Burscough were hit hard two minutes later when they had Niall Moran sent off for what was a terrible tackle on Kendal full-back Billy Batch.
There wasn’t much doubt about the outcome after that as Kendal dominated and they doubled their lead on 17 minutes when a deflected shot from Paul Jarvis found the back of the Burscough net.
On 35 minutes Bailey made it 3-0 when he got on the end of a Batch cross to score spectacularly with a diving header.
Kendal’s fourth goal had some degree of luck about it. A Batch cross – or was it a shot – deceived the home keeper and ended in the net.
The scoring was actually completed on 65 minutes when Bailey Kenny scored the fifth goal with a low shot from the edge of the area.
It was all Kendal in the closing stages but then nearest they came to a sixth when a Finlay Lynch effort was cleared off the line.
