Workington Reds have given an up-date on four key players who have been limited in their appearances so far this season.
Lewis Reilly, Bobby Carroll, Aidy Roxburgh and Sam Smith have had limited game time because of various injuries.
Striker Reilly is still some weeks away after undergoing ankle surgery and it has been suggested that it will be well into 2024 before he’s back playing again.
The former Crewe and Marine striker has only featured in three games so far, twice as substitute.
Carroll, also into his second season with the Borough Park club but last season’s Young Player of the Year is closing in on a return. He is back in training after being injured in the August home defeat to leaders Radcliffe Borough.
Close season recruit Roxburgh played in the first three games but then four subsequent appearances were spread out as he struggled with various injury setbacks. Hopefully his return isn’t too far away.
Smith, who has been out with a groin injury since the end of September, is close to a return. It’s now 10 years since the dependable defender made his Workington debut.

The absence of four good NPL players has clearly had an impact on Reds’ fortunes but hopefully three of them should be playing again soon and looking for a brighter 2024.
