A renowned outdoor cooking personality from Cumbria has been overwhelmed with the response to his first book.
Harrison Ward, also known as Fell Foodie, released Cook Out last month, and it has already become an Amazon bestseller.
Harrison’s journey to leading a life and career as an outdoor cook, media personality and mental health speaker began back in 2016 when he reached a point where he knew he needed to turn his life around.
An event at Force Café in Ambleside attended by outdoor and cooking personalities including TV’s Phil Vickery to see the book be launched was a proud moment for Harrison, as he explains: “It’s so bizarre seeing it out in the world. It’s really something I’d never have imagined having the chance to do.
“Celebrating the launch in a room full of friends, family and those I’ve worked with past and present was an emotional moment as they have all played their part. Not only in the creation of this book but in my personal battles with depression and alcoholism. I owe them all so much.
“A massive thank you to Vertebrate Publishing for taking the chance on me, Lisa Edwards, my literary agent, who believed in me the moment we met, Kenny Block for being the photographer and a friend, every bookshop and retailer that has stocked Cook Out and to all those who show support continuously on the wild journey.”
Harrison has been on the road since the October release, speaking at various national conferences and outdoor exhibitions on a book tour.
He added: “Experiencing the launch of Cook Out is a true childhood dream coming to fruition. I’d never imagined this coming true, especially with some difficult personal hurdles to navigate along the way.”
Fell Foodie’s book is a collection of recipes that encapsulate the essence of good food, featuring dishes such as American-style pancakes, pork belly ramen and his personal take on classics like rhubarb crumble and apple fritters – all of which can be prepared in the great outdoors.
