A Cumbrian bank is the latest to announce that it is closing next year.
The Lloyds branch in Penrith will close its doors on March 19.
It said: “The world is becoming more digital than ever before and more of our customers are doing their everyday banking online. With more customers banking digitally, we’ve seen a fall in branch visits. Because of this, we’ve decided to close this branch.”
The closure decision said 288 of Lloyds’ customers use the Penrith branch regularly.
It said 25 per cent also used other Lloyds branches, 75 per cent have also used internet, phone or other Lloyds branches and 24 per cent have also used the Post Office.
The majority of customers are aged 55 to 74.
Eighty-six per cent of customers overall are personal customers, with 14 per cent business customers.
Transactions have fallen by 57 per cent in the last five years for personal customers and by 71 per cent for business customers.
Cashpoint transactions have fallen by 67 per cent in the last five years for personal customers and 57 per cent for business customers, the bank said.
Customers are advised that following the closure, the nearest Lloyds branch available is around 18 miles away – in Carlisle – or 25 miles away, in Kendal.
