WATCH: Rollo’s Ravenous – the mega Christmas baguette challenge by Al’s Kitchen

A Workington man is taking on a series of extreme food challenges – and he’s started with an enormous festive baguette.

Iain ‘Rollo’ Rollason, 38, from Workington, is eating mind boggling amounts of food all in the name of supporting local businesses and giving everyone a good laugh in the run-up to Christmas.

This week, he took on a mega Christmas baguette created by Al’s Kitchen, who are based in Workington.

Rollo said: “Alison’s famous in the Workington area for doing amazing food, the challenge is pigs in blankets, turkey, stuffing, gravy and a mammoth baguette and we’ve got cranberry sauce too.

“The chances of me doing this are slim, but we’re going to give it a good go now! I don’t even know how I’m going to attempt to eat it!”

Weighing in at a whopping six pounds in weight – it’s an immense sandwich that completely dwarfs the average Christmas baguette, made by owner Alison Quinn.

Once the baguette is wrapped up in yards of tin foil – Rollo takes the monster home to start his eating challenge. But the real question is, will he manage it?

A six pound festive baguette with all the trimmings you say? Light work for Rollo! He’s gone and smashed his first eating challenge.

He said: “Rollo one, challenge nil! Big thank you to Alison and all the staff down at Al’s Kitchen. They have absolutely amazing home cooked food so get yourself down there now and get them supported.”

Rollo has dozens more eating challenges in the pipeline including a ‘burritozilla’ created by S&R Events and Catering, a super-sized eight pound pie and mash challenge at Squirrels Pantry in Cockermouth and an immense breakfast at The Eatery in Workington.

Other food challenges taking place after Christmas will include a tower dessert challenge by Tan’s Bakes, a pizza pie challenge by Aroma Coffee & Takeaway in Maryport, a ‘mega mega’ mixed grill by The Dovenby Ship in Cockermouth and ‘the meat mountain’ by Marshal’s Butchers in Workington.

While Rollo isn’t a full-time competitive eater, he loves his food and has well and truly proved himself this week.
