Strong winds with gusts up to 70mph are expected to hit Cumbria.

The Met Office has issued a warning for gusts of wind up to 70mph in coastal areas from 9am tomorrow until 11.45pm on Saturday.

Strong winds of up to 45mph to 55mph are expected more widely across the region and are expected to ease slowly through the evening.

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It’s possible that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
