Three people have been arrested as part of a police operation to tackle boat thefts.

The trio, from the Yorkshire area, were snared as part of Cumbria police’s Operation Headway, set up to address boat and outboard engine thefts in the Lake District.

Officers from the South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team, Rural Crime Team and Kendal CID conducted early morning arrests and address searches in West and South Yorkshire yesterday, Monday, December 18.

A man, aged 27, from Wakefield, a woman aged 31, from Barnsley and a man aged 32 from Barnsley were all arrested on suspicion of theft and interviewed by detectives from Kendal CID.

The suspects have been released on police bail while investigations continue.

Police said they found several thousands pounds hidden in a property during the raids. Officers have seized the cash.

During the property searches officers located several thousands of pounds of cash secreted in one of the properties. This was seized by police and a confiscation order is being sought using the Proceeds of Crime Act.
