Aynsome Manor Hotel

A hotel nestled in the south of the Lake District has been sold.

Aynsome Manor Hotel, which dates back to around 1735, is in Cartmel.

Chris Varley’s family ran the hotel for the last 42 years, but put it on the market to retire.

It had a guide price of £1.15 million and was sold with Colliers.

Aynsome Manor was once the residence of the descendants of William Marshall, Earl of Pembroke.

The property has 10 en suite bedrooms and two two-bedroom cottages on the site.

Chris said: “After 42 years of ownership in our family Aynsome Manor was more than a business, it was where we as a family made friendships and created memories and the views over the Cartmel Valley never failed to lift the spirits.

“It’s with some sadness that we’ve decided to move on, but we’re confident that the business we’ve curated will continue to evolve and provide much enjoyment for its guests.”

Neil Thomson, associate director in the hotels team at Colliers, managed the sale, he said: “We’re proud to have facilitated the sale of Aynsome Manor Hotel, an iconic establishment in the heart of Cartmel. We are confident the legacy of excellence at the hotel will continue and the business will welcome many more guests in the future.

“The sale of Aynsome Manor Hotel concludes another very successful year in Cumbria and the Lake District for Colliers, marking the 58th leisure business sold in the region by our team since the beginning of 2021.”
