Carlisle United are moving towards another two signings as manager Paul Simpson steps up his efforts to strengthen his squad.
The internet has been alive with suggestions that Harry Lewis of Bradford City, one of the most respected goalkeepers in League Two, is set to move to Brunton Park for an undisclosed fee.
At the same time there are stories from over the border that Carlisle are keen on signing 23-year-old midfielder Jack Thomson from Queen’s Park who play in the Scottish Championship.
Thomson, who started his career with Glasgow Rangers, is out of contract at the end of this season.
The signing of Lewis would certainly be a coup as the 26-year-old is highly thought of. An ever-present at Valley Parade since joining in 2022, he did sit out the recent EFL Trophy win over Derby County, as veteran stopper Colin Doyle started between the sticks.
He has not missed a single league game for the Bantams this season, making a total of 26 appearances in the fourth tier.
Shrewsbury- born he started his youth career with his home town club before moving to Southampton and prior to joining Bradford City had played 30 times on loan for Dundee United.
Goalkeeping runs in the family because he is the grandson of Ken Mulhearn who played over 600 League games across 18 years for Stockport, Man City, Shrewsbury and Crewe.
Thomson was only 10 when he was selected for the Rangers Academy and progressed through the age groups.
He had a loan spell at Clyde in season 2020-2021 before moving to USA side Orange County on another loan spell. Unfortunately Jack sustained an injury early on and returned to Scotland.
He was also selected for the Scotland Under 16s and17s squad, and after an initial loan spell with Queen’s Park he signed permanently in January 2022 on a contact until June 2023 which was extended until 2024.
Carlisle are said to want to complete the transfer this month so that he can join the battle to avoid relegation.
