Barrow had to settle for a point as Sutton United moved off the foot of the League Two table with a 2-2 home draw.
It was a promising start for Sutton’s new manager Steve Morison while Pete Wild started his two-match suspension away from the dug-out.
Wild said afterwards: “I think at the end of the season we will look at this one and say we got a point from a game where we weren’t at our best.”
The Bluebirds, who had taken the lead, needed a late equaliser to take a point on the long trek back to the North West.
Barrow had taken the lead on 35 minutes after the lively Elliot Newby got to the by-line and put in a good low cross which was turned home by Ben Whitfield.
They had hardly caused Barrow a problem but Sutton were able to go in all square at the break when Harry Beautyman got through to score with a well-controlled finish.
Eight minutes into the second half Beautyman scored again when he got on the end of a cross from Joe Kizzi to beat Barrow keeper Paul Farman.
Substitute Emile Acquah shook the bar with a thundering effort before Niall Canavan rescued Barrow a point after 73 minutes when he forced home Whitfield’s corner.
