Carlisle United are in the spotlight again for the wrong reasons – an incident of racial abuse during Saturday’s game against Oxford United.
The club is helping Cumbria police in connection with the reported abuse which was directed at an assistant referee.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order.
In the previous home game the club had to impose bans on four youngsters who were involved in foul abuse of the Port Vale goalkeeper.
The club have issued a statement, deploring the abhorrent behaviour and condemned it in the strongest possible terms.
The statement said: “We have assisted the police in identifying an individual of interest and we are supporting them in dealing with the incident.
“The incident occurred during the final 10 minutes of the match in the home section of the Andrew Jenkins Stand.”
Chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “We will do everything we can to identify this individual and take the strongest action possible.
“This is a deplorable incident and despite recent appeals, another case of unacceptable fan behaviour. “
