Lake District inn to be given new lease of life

The Brackenrigg Inn

A Lake District inn is set to be given a new lease of life thanks to a local hotel.

The Brackenrigg Inn in Ullswater has been taken on by the nearby Another Place, the Lake and will reopen this spring.

The firm said the reopening was the first step in its three-year transformation. The longer term opportunities are to re-establish the inn’s microbrewery and tap room – the Brack n’ Brew brewhouse was set up in a converted stable block and ran from 2015 until 2022.

Six acres of meadows will include a kitchen garden and orchards to supply produce to the kitchens of the inn and Another Place and an events meadow for feast nights and summer dining; a nature-inspired children’s play area; barbecue and fire pit areas and the potential for more outdoor accommodation closer to the elements are also planned.

Judi Blakeburn, Another Place CCO, said: “Following the success of Outside – which extended the hotel with a treehouse, shepherd’s huts and the Glasshouse, we were looking for other ways to enhance the Ullswater experience for our guests. The Brackenrigg offers that in spades. It’s a country pub in the truest sense, the beating heart of local life where a community gathers and connects.

“We’re excited to build on that with our unique Another Place perspective, bringing culture, conscience and care together to create a place that celebrates tradition but feels welcoming and modern.

“Beyond our guests, the Brackenrigg presents the opportunity to strengthen our ties with the community we’re part of and that’s something we’re really fired up about. It’s going to be a very special place.”
