Workington Reds have organised a series of hugely successful stadium tours for Groundhoppers at their historic Borough Park ground.
This season’s visits have attracted massive interest from enthusiastic football fans from far and wide.
Prior to Saturday’s home game against Warrington Rylands, the stadium tour, led by stadium director Les Byers, was joined by supporters from Birmingham and Ipswich as well as one particular long distance fan who travelled from Hamburg in Germany.
Andreas Theophil made the long trip from his home in Hamburg in Germany and thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Borough Park.
Speaking after the game he said: “What a warm-hearted welcome from everyone at your club, and Reds took so much care of me. I felt like I was part of the Workington AFC family.
“I am still buzzing….what a perfect, brilliant day at Borough Park that was! I really enjoyed the stadium tour of an authentic old English football ground.”
His verdict on the game, which ended in a 2-2 draw, “Reds played well, but dropped two points unfortunately.”
And the lifelong Hamburger Sport-Verein e.V fan, commonly known as Hamburger SV or simply Hamburg, added: “Borough Park…what a ground…. absolutely beautiful. Love it. Please, please keep its character when modernising it? But I am sure that it’s in good, safe hands.

“I’d like to particularly thank Les, so much for everything, He is a top man. I won’t forget this day and who knows I will be back to see the new stadium. All the best to the Reds from Hamburg.”
One special request from Andreas was to have his photograph taken at the ground holding his beloved blue and white Hamburger SV scarf to show his wife when he returned home.
By Monday, despite Storm Ishia, he was home safe and sound, back in Germany.
Reds groundhopper tours of the Borough Park Stadium are available for each of the remaining home games this season and can be booked online via the Reds website at Groundhopper Tour.
