Northside has been hosting a special three-day training course for the promising young riders embarking on a speedway career.
One of the coaches has been seven times British champion and former Grand Prix rider Scott Nicholls.
At 45 he’s the elder statesman of British speedway, as well as being a popular addition to the TV team covering the Grand Prix circuit.
Although he didn’t have his bike with him at Northside he did have a spin round on borrowed gear and declared the track “awesome.”
Overseeing the three-day camp was Neil Vatcher, the GB Youth team manager who had visited Northside last season, was impressed and suggested organising the three-day training camp to Andrew Bain and Steve Lawson.
Their response was positive, hence the three day get together this week – although today’s session was spent in the classroom because of the poor weather conditions.
“We have a mix of 125cc, 250cc and 500cc riders involved and they will all be competing in this year’s British Youth Championship.
“In total we have 50 riders registered and about half of them were able to attend,” said Vatcher.
Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh spoke to both Scott Nicholls and Neil Vatcher and you can hear their thoughts below:
