Matlock Town, who visit Workington on Saturday, have completed the signing of Rotherham United midfielder Curtis Durose on loan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old has recently returned to his parent club after a loan spell at National League North side Scarborough Athletic, where he made 21 appearances and scored on two occasions. But after starting fairly regularly in the early stages of the season with Scarborough, his minutes dwindled.
The combative attacking midfielder also spent the 2022/23 season on loan in the Northern Premier League with Gainsborough Trinity, becoming their joint-highest appearance maker with 49 games in all competitions.
He scored 14 times, including one in the play-off semi-final defeat to Bamber Bridge.
The youngster began his career at Rotherham United, rising through the ranks and made his professional debut for the Miller in the EFL Trophy in October 2021.
On his new acquisition, Matlock Town boss Martin Carruthers said: “I’m absolutely delighted to sign Curtis as he’ll be a fantastic addition for the football club.
“We know all about Curtis from his time at Gainsborough last year, where he was inspirational in helping them get into the play-offs. He scored 14 goals in the process, so we know about his quality, we know about his goalscoring ability and it’s something that we need at this moment in time.
“A big thank you to Rotherham for their help in getting this over the line. After the troubles we’ve had recently in getting lads in, this is a welcome boost and I’m very much looking forward to seeing him in action.”
Two of Workington’s recent loanees from Carlisle United travelled up to Glasgow on Monday with Paul Simpson’s squad for the friendly against Rangers B.
Aran Fitzpatrick came on at left-back for Jack Robinson in the 62nd minute while Sam Hetherington was an unused substitute.
Both will be in the Reds squad for the home clash with Matlock which brings together two sides level on points (35) in the table where they lie 13th and 14th, although the Gladiators do have three games in hand.
